I’ve been thinking and talking about what makes a good board member.  Early stage companies usually start with a board made up of one or more founders.  If they take venture capital funding, the VC fund will usually request (and get) the right to appoint a board member.  Funds that actively invest in early stage companies will typically appoint one of their partners to sit on the board and in most circumstances, that board member will assist the company with introductions, advice, sometimes even participating in customer meetings.
